What is a Wi-Fi phone? Wi-Fi Phone is a wireless cellphone connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot to communicate. Wi-Fi is a technology for sending data at high speed wirelessly. Wi-Fi phones use the same technology used in VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). VoIP is a new technology that allows users to make long distance calls for free, but there is a limit that the call must come from a computer. This new Wi-Fi cellphone makes it possible to use VoIP to call without connecting to a computer. They use the same wireless network technology as computer use. Wi-Fi phones can call on computers, other mobile devices, landline or to VoIP addresses.

Wi-Fi phone is part of a smartphone. Smartphone is a handheld cellphone that has a PC feature like a PC. The usual smartphone will come with GPS, email, and ebooks capabilities. Smartphones also have installing options and external applications to meet your needs. The following is a summary of features capable of smartphones:

    Send and receive phone calls.
Manage personal information such as contacts and appointments.
Connect and communicate with other devices such as PCs, laptops or smartphones themselves.
    E-mail and instant messaging.
Office applications like Word and PDF.
Catch and play audio and video in a standard format.
Smart phones have high processing speed in the range of 200 to 700 MHz, smartphones use the ARM processor. This processor is very power-efficient and used in printers, MP3 players and other small devices. They have default memory plus expansion slots for extra storage. Smartphone software can be visualized in the layer as follows:

Kernel: This is the heart of the software; It manages all software processes and drivers.
MIDDLEWARE: It consists of all software libraries and fire needed for application execution.
User interface layout: GUI and the layout is here.
Application: This is where the application is saved and ready to be executed.
Each cellphone has an operating system (OS). Smartphone OS controls function and allows hardware interactions with software. The initial Wi-Fi phone is connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, based on the connection checks VoIP capabilities and places VoIP calls on the user’s request. Just like a PC, data packages are exchanged between routers and telephones during phone calls. From the hardware point of view, the wireless phone sends a signal at a different frequency. General cellphones transmit at 850 MHz while wireless phones use Wi-Fi 802.11b or 802.11g signals that transmit at 2.5 GHz. In the Wi-Fi phone, because the numbered number is converted into a package and sent to a wireless receiver. Wireless recipients send calls to the Internet such as other VoIP calls. When the conversation starts, the sound is also transmitted in the package. Some Wi-Fi phones use the Protocol Protocol Initiation Session (SIP). Calls can be made by just entering the desired sip address. SIP is one of the standard protocols to handle sound data. Currently the Wi-Fi phone does not have much potential due to a lack of Wi-Fi routers throughout the country. So it’s not necessary that everyone who has a Wi-Fi phone has wireless connectivity to receive calls. Some Wi-Fi phones come with GSM features then users can receive calls with or without a Wi-Fi connection. VoIP uses a lot of bandwidth, if the router becomes too crowded, the quality loss will occur, such problems prevent the growth of the current Wi-Fi mobile phone.
