Whenever you receive bouquets, you don’t just throw them in a vase and let them wilt, don’t you? Heaven forbid if you just throw them on the table and forget about them until they fade. Flower bouquets and arrangements are meant to be enjoyed for a long time, and everyone must learn how to take care of these creations. Even if they last for only a few days, they convey a message, and you’ll also express your appreciation to the person who gave them to you.

If you happen to be in the process of grieving for a beloved family member, you would typically receive tons of flowers from people expressing their condolences. Since you wouldn’t be able to take care of everything, the funeral directors Leeds taking care of the wake will help you caring for them in the meantime and place them in the appropriate place. They’ll know what to do to keep them as fresh as possible for a bit longer. Their knowledge isn’t something you can discount as they have spent years perfecting it.

However, if you’re home and want to keep flowers fresh longer, here are a few things you have to remember.

Be sure to trim the stems

One of the first things you have to do after removing the flowers from the bouquet and preparing to put them in the vase is to cut the stems. Trim an inch or two of the stems using a garden shear to help water intake. Cut them at an angle and re-trim them once every few days to keep them looking fresh.

    Don’t forget to prune

Remove leaves below the waterline to prevent any bacterial growth from happening. Regularly check the flowers for dead petals or leaves and remove them accordingly. Your flowers will continue to look good if you do this properly.

    Use flower food

Remember to put flowers inside a vase with an adequate amount of water. Don’t use chilled water or hot water; use room temperature water. It would also be great to add flower food in the water to nourish them. Ensure that the water isn’t too diluted or concentrated because it would significantly affect the them. Don’t forget to clean the vase and replace the water as necessary.

Avoid putting them in direct sunlight, heat or draft

If you want the flowers to last longer, never place them under direct sunlight, so near windows are a no-no. Don’t place them near appliances that generate heat, as it will also escalate the wilting process. Also, don’t place them near air conditioning units because they will dehydrate faster. Don’t expose them to cigarette smoke if you can also avoid it.

    Keep the water clean

One of the best things we can advise is to keep the water as clean as possible. You shouldn’t place flowers in cloudy water because it wouldn’t help with their health. Once you notice that the water becomes dirty, it’s time to replace it.

    Final words

Taking care of flowers is pretty straightforward, but you have to be exceptionally detail-oriented and attentive. You can do several things to make them look fresh and last longer. You’ll get to enjoy not only their beautiful colours but also their fragrance around the house.
